Cops: McCallum fled scene; LCPD officer suffered minor injuries.

A Lake City police officer was injured early Sunday in a crash at the intersection of Duval Street and SW McFarlane Avenue.
According to a Lake City Police Department release, the preliminary investigation points to a failure to yield by 37-year-old Reginald McCallum, of Lake City, for causing the crash. McCallum attempted to turn left from westbound Duval Street onto SW McFarlane Avenue and the officer was unable to avoid the collision.
The officer, whose identity was not released by the LCPD, was transported to HCA Lake City Hospital for treatment with minor injuries and has since been released.
According to LCPD, McCallum fled the scene of the crash on foot. However, a Columbia County sheriff’s deputy, who witnessed the crash, quickly detained McCallum, who was charged with hit and run with injury to another, hit and run with property damage, resist officer without violence and probation violation.
