A house fire Wednesday afternoon was caused by a woman setting her residence ablaze, according to the Lake City Police Department.

According to an LCPD release, witnesses told authorities that the fire on NE Bradley Terrace at 2:07 p.m. Wednesday was the result of the homeowner, 76-year-old Connie Clark intentionally starting the fire.

The release states the witnesses also said Clark, who was found with a large box of matches, didn’t want law enforcement to respond to the fire.

An investigation, conducted with help from the Lake City Fire Department and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement fire marshal, found multiple areas inside the house with fresh burns as well as in a storage building on the property and on the exterior of the house, including a nearby tree, according to LCPD.

Clark was charged with two counts of first degree arson.
