Longtime Lake City Reporter sports writer Jordan Kroeger has a new title: sports editor.

Kroeger was named the Reporter’s sports editor earlier this week by Editor Jamie Wachter.

After joining the Reporter in December 2014 as a sports reporter, Kroeger covered Columbia and Fort White sports through August 2016 before departing for Punta Gorda and the Charlotte Sun.

Little more than a year later, Kroeger returned to Lake City and has continued to produce daily content on the Tigers and Indians as well as playing an integral role in the paper’s expansion into Suwannee County last year.

“I am excited and honored to have the opportunity to lead the Reporter’s sports department,” Kroeger said. “Since joining the newspaper a few years ago, I’ve strived to deliver the best sports section daily to the LCR’s readers with content they enjoy. And I will continue to do so.”

A graduate from the University of Miami, Kroeger earned accolades there for broadcast journalism, serving as co-lead anchor for the SportsDesk episode that was awarded Best College Sports Show in the country by the National Broadcasting Society in March 2012.

Kroeger’s transition to print and digital journalism began with the South Florida Sun-Sentinel as a freelance writer in August 2013.

“Jordan’s dedication to our local athletes, teams and sports fans has been evident in the great work he produces daily, both in the stories he writes and the eye-catching pages he designs,” Wachter said.

Kroeger is from Broward County and is a big Miami sports fan, especially the Miami Heat and Miami Dolphins in addition to the Hurricanes.

He recently got engaged to his fiancée, Danielle, over the summer and the two recently bought a house together in Alachua with their two dogs, Barkley and Wade.

They plan to get married in April.
