A juvenile was arrested Saturday night after grabbing tickets from the ticket booth at the Florida Gateway Fair.

When a group of juveniles caused a disturbance during the second night of the fair at the Florida Gateway Fairgrounds, another juvenile reached in through the window at the ticket booth and grabbed tickets before fleeing.

According to Sheriff Mark Hunter, the juvenile was detained and the tickets were returned to the fair.

"We had an eventful night," Hunter said Sunday.

When the disturbance broke out, Hunter said Columbia County sheriff's deputies working at the fair quickly requested backup and the situation was promptly resolved.

"We had a robust response," he said.

As deputies were resolving the situation, Hunter said one deputy issued a warning to the juveniles with his taser. However, there were no firearms involved and no gunfire heard.

After the "eventful" night, Hunter said additional security will be on hand for the remainder of the fair, particularly next weekend when the 70th annual event winds up its 10-day run.

"We had pretty good security already," he said. "But we will be adding more, including some in plain clothes."
