Columbia County Schools will have a short week of in-school instruction.
The district announced Monday afternoon that it will have a virtual instruction day Wednesday with teachers and students working from home.
On Thursday and Friday, the district will be closed for all employees and students.
The district is planning to re-open for normal operations Monday, Oct. 3.
With Hurricane Ian approaching Florida and an ordered evacuation of counties in the state, the district anticipates that “several of our school swill be opened as EMERGENCY shelters within the next 48 hours,” the CCS release states.
As such, and with tropical storm force winds expected Wednesday as well as congested roads, the district decided to go to the virtual learning day.
Also, the district has canceled all extracurricular activities from Wednesday through Friday. That includes Columbia’s football game at Orange Park. A makeup date is to be determined.
