High speed chase nets pot, no driver

A car was able to run from law enforcement Monday afternoon, but not hide.

After a high-speed chase Monday, which began around 1 p.m. when Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Peter Spurlock attempted a stop on an orange Dodge Charger for illegal window tint, the car was spotted later Monday afternoon on the north side of Lake City. The driver of the car, though, has not been captured.

According to a CCSO release, the car was parked behind a residence near NE Buddy Avenue and NE Fryer Street. The car was parked behind a privacy fence. However, the CCSO release said the car could still be seen due to portions of the fence being in disrepair.

When deputies found the car, it was unoccupied but a strong smell of marijuana was coming from the car. During a search of the vehicle, deputies found 582 grams of marijuana in plastic bags along with a scale commonly associated with the sale of illegal narcotics.

The drugs were confiscated.
