Gas station shooting death investigation ongoing

A 47-year-old Lake City man was shot and killed Sunday afternoon at a Columbia County gas station.

According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Kendrick Jerry was the victim of the shooting, which occurred around 1 p.m. Sunday at the Chevron gas station near the U.S. Highway 441 N. and Interstate 10 interchange.

Jerry was involved in an altercation with another male in the Chevron parking lot, according to the CCSO in a Tuesday morning release. Jerry died from a single gunshot wound.

Detectives have identified the other person involved in the altercation, according to the release, but have not released his identity.

According to the release, the investigation is ongoing.

“It is tragic to lose any member of our community,” Sheriff Mark Hunter said in the release. “We will work diligently to verify all facts in this case and provide answers to the Jerry family.”

Shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday, deputies responded to the station to the report of a shooting. They found Jerry lying outside near the front door to the station.

Despite receiving aid from deputies and EMS personnel, Jerry died at the gas station.
