Already facing sexual battery charges, a Fort White man could see additional charges pending an investigation.

According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, 37-year-old Edward Tillman Cook II was arrested Tuesday for sexual battery on a victim 12 years of age or older after school resource deputies learned of a possible sexual abuse the week prior.

The CCSO release states a sexual abuse against a student was reported to them last Thursday, prompting an investigation by detectives and the Department of Children and Families, who ensured the victim was safe from further harm.

As part of the investigation, Cook was interviewed and arrested following that interview.

“The Sheriff’s Office is committed to making sure that every victim is heard, respected, and afforded the opportunity to seek justice in their case,” Sheriff Mark Hunter said in a release. “Our school resource deputies and detectives worked in conjunction with our partners at the Department of Children and Families to immediately protect this child and seek justice on their behalf.”

The investigation is ongoing and the CCSO is seeking assistance from the public. Anyone who was or knows of a potential victim of Cook is encouraged to contact the CCSO at 386-719-2005.

According to the CCSO release, Cook has previously been investigated for crimes against minors. He was convicted for interfering with child custody from incidents in March 2020. During that case, Cook was alleged to have solicited at least two minors for photos.

Cook was also charged with probation violation Tuesday.
