Containment lines holding on gun range fire

Crews are continuing to battle the brush fire near the rifle range in the Osceola National Forest.

According to the Lake City Fire Department, drones flown by the U.S. Forest Service estimate the fire Monday morning to be around 130-150 acres with containment lines holding.

The fire broke out Sunday near the gun range and south of Gum Swamp Road with heavy smoke impacting Lake City and the surrounding area.

The LCFD release Monday said helicopters would be flying to make water stops to hit hot spots within the fire to help combat the high winds and potential spread during the red flag warning that is in effect Monday.

The U.S. Forest Service was utilizing Watertown Lake as a water source to fight the fire throughout Sunday. According to the LCFD on Monday, people are asked to avoid areas where the water pick up and drops are occurring for safety reasons.
