CHS cleared after false 'active shooter' call

Columbia High School was placed on lockdown Tuesday afternoon due to a reported “active shooter.”

According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, the report was false. The CCSO said the call was similar to those in the spring of a bomb threat at the school.

“At this time there is no active threat to any of our schools,” the CCSO said in a release around 2:50 p.m. “We will always threat these calls with seriousness until we verify everything is okay.”

The CHS campus has resumed normal operations but an increased law enforcement presence will be on campus throughout Tuesday afternoon.

According to the sheriff’s office, multiple agencies around the state reported receiving similar calls Tuesday. The CCSO is working with other law enforcement agencies to “try to identify and hold those accountable for these false reports.”
