FORT WHITE - A boil water notice has been issued to customers of the Fort White water system.
Columbia County issued the notice Monday afternoon after the town’s system featured a loss of water pressure because of a broken water line. The notice, which was issued as a precaution, is for all water that is to be used for drinking or cooking. A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient, according to the notice.
Fort White water customers can also use bottled water as an alternative until the problem is fixed.
Once the water main has been fixed, a bacteriological survey will be conducted to make sure the water is safe to drink.
For more information, people may call the Fort White public works department at 386-497-3345.
With the boil water notice, Fort White High School is asking students to bring water with them to school to stay hydrated. All water fountains at the school will be turned off until the problem is fixed.
There will be some bottled water available during lunches and in the gym for those who need it.
