A Lake City man was arrested Friday by the Lake City Police Department for a 2021 murder.

According to an LCPD release, 33-year-old Dominic Brantley was charged with homicide for the October 2021 killing of Timothy McGaffick at the Columbia Arms Apartments.

The release said witness statements identified Brantley as the suspect in the death of McGaffick, who the release said died from blunt force trauma. Evidence collected at the scene also pointed to Brantley, the release said.

“I would like to thank the community for stepping forward and providing statements in this case,” Lake City Police Chief Gerald Butler said in a release. “Their statements allowed investigators to tie evidence from different locations together and this is another example of the community working in conjunction with law enforcement to remove another violent offender from our streets.”

On Oct. 12,2021, LCPD officers responded to the apartments for a well-being check around 9 p.m. as a social services worker said they hadn’t heard from McGaffick for several days, which was unusual.

When nobody answered the door, officers made entry and found McGaffick dead.

The death was immediately investigated as a homicide with investigators from LCPD as well as the Florida Department of Law Enforcement taking over the investigation.
