ELLISVILLE — An early morning New Year’s crash killed three people and shut down Interstate 75 for hours.

A 21-vehicle crash occurred at mile marker 414 on northbound I-75 around 12:40 a.m. Sunday, involving three fatalities.

The Florida Highway Patrol, which continues to investigate the crash, has provided little information.

Lt. Pat Riordan, an FHP spokesman, said Monday afternoon that he was not sure how many people were injured in the accident. Riordan said it was a “very lengthy scene” for troopers due to the complexity of the crash with the number of vehicles and people.

“It took a long, long time,” Riordan said, adding more information is expected in the next few days.

Riordan said one of the vehicles involved in the crash was a Greyhound bus.
