Columbia scored two runs in the first inning, which began with Union County pitcher Tre’von Lee hitting Matt Dumas and Hayden Gustavson to start the frame before Dumas stole second base. Dumas then stole third and scored when Union County catcher Blake Agner airmailed the throw over the head of third baseman Ethan Moody.

Jason Dumas, who was courtesy running for Gustavson, scored shortly after on Josh Fernald’s RBI double to make it 2-0.

Bynton Edge started on the mound for Columbia, allowing a one-out double to Ayden Elixson, but he worked out of the jam with a liner to shortstop and his second strikeout of the first inning. The sophomore walked two batters and recorded one out in the second before the game was called.
