PREP BASEBALL: Bowers, Phillips lead Columbia past First Coast

Grant Bowers and Ayden Phillips combined to throw a 3-hitter while Bowers also went 3 for 3 at the plate with four RBIs to lead Columbia to a 6-1 win over First Coast at the Fernandina Beach Tournament on Saturday.

Bowers pitched three innings and gave up all three hits with a walk while striking out five batters. Phillips took over from there, allowing one unearned run on zero hits and one walk over the final four frame while striking out six.

Colton Mote also had an RBI for the Tigers (5-7), who handed the Pirates (7-3) their third straight loss.

Columbia returns home Tuesday for a matchup against St. Augustine at 7 p.m.
