MEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: FGC tops Palm Beach State, clinches top seed for Region 8 tournament

Florida Gateway College rallied past Palm Beach State College for a 92-79 win on the road Saturday, clinching the top seed in next week’s Region 8 tournament.

Antewan Webber scored 27 points to lead the Timberwolves (13-11, 7-1), who outscored the Panthers (14-10, 5-3) by 16 in the second half after trailing 47-44 at halftime. Maurice Campbell added 19 points with four steals and Jeremiah Barze also registered double figures with 16 points.

FGC withstood 32 points from Torrin Andrews, who shot 4 of 5 from 3 and 12 of 15 from the foul line for PBSC. Just six players scored for the Panthers — who shot 11 of 18 from beyond the arc — with Caleb Muller (12), Eduardo Diaz (11) and Ryan Moore (10) also finishing in double figures.

FGC will host the Region 8 tournament and have a bye into Saturday’s championship game at 2 p.m. Palm Beach State College will face Pasco-Hernando State College in the semifinals Friday at 7 p.m.
