For the second straight week, Florida Gateway College split a pair of doubleheaders.

The Timberwolves defeated East Georgia State College 9-0 but then dropped the second game 3-1 in a road doubleheader on Tuesday before following it up with a 4-1 loss and a 5-2 win over the school at home Saturday.

Tuesday’s 9-0 final saw FGC (4-4) score seven runs in the fifth inning to force a run-rule victory midway through the sixth. Reece Chasteen (2 for 3) and Karley Jerrels (1 for 3) each had two RBIs, which included a home run by Chasteen, while Amanda Whalen (2 for 3) and Mackenzie Peters (2 for 4) both drove in a run. Karis Smith only allowed two hits and struck out three for the win in the circle.

Game 2 on Tuesday saw EGSC jump out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning thanks to two RBIs by Joslyn Barrs and one RBI by Jaylin Hall off Alexandra Messina, who suffered the loss in only one inning in the circle. Elise Poss pitched a complete game for the win, scattering five hits and three walks while striking out three.

Saturday’s opener was tied 1-1 until the seventh inning when EGSC struck for three runs off Peters, who suffered the loss in a complete-game performance where she allowed four earned runs on nine hits with four strikeouts. Hall had two RBIs while Brianna Johnsen and Poss each had one. Peters had an RBI triple for one of FGC’s three hits off Johnsen, who walked two and struck out three.

But the Timberwolves bounced back in Game 2, jumping out to a 5-1 lead thanks to two RBIs and a home run by Smith and an RBI apiece from Cheyenne Boggs and Peters. Peters pitched four innings and allowed one earned run on eight hits while Messina allowed one earned run on three hits.

FGC next travels to Andrew College for a doubleheader on Wednesday before returning home for a doubleheader against South Georgia State College on Saturday.
