COLLEGE BASKETBALL: FGC rallies to top FSCJ, pulls within a game of first place in Region 8

JACKSONVILLE — Ty’jahn Wright scored 22 points, Antewan Webber had 19 points with five rebounds and five assists, and Oakley Lewis added 17 points to lead Florida Gateway College to a 103-94 come-from-behind road win over Florida State College at Jacksonville on Saturday afternoon.

Amayoa’ah Phillips also contributed with 11 points and Isaac Broxey had 11 more off the bench for the Timberwolves (15-8, 4-2), who rallied from down 52-43 at halftime to pull within a game of the Blue Wave (18-6, 5-1) in the Region 8 standings. Joseph Mitchell reached double figures as well for FGC, scoring 10 points in reserve.

Tarence Guinyard led FSCJ with 26 points, six assists and five rebounds, while Aidan Fletcher added 18 points off the bench. Eddie Mitchel (13), Alex McCray (11) and Jordan Smith (10) also finished in double figures for the Blue Wave, who had a 7-game winning streak snapped.

The game turned into a free throw shooting contest due to 57 fouls being called. FGC finished 34 of 43 from the line while FSCJ went 31 of 44. The Timberwolves shot 47% from the field compared to the Blue Wave shooting just 44%.

The teams will meet two more times this season on Feb. 14 (at FSCJ) and Feb. 24 (at FGC). Next up for FGC is a road conference matchup at Palm Beach State College on Wednesday night.
