ATLANTA — Florida Gateway College has finished its inaugural season as NJCAA champions.
The tournament, played in Atlanta the past three days and presented by NFL FLAG and the Atlanta Falcons, ended with the Timberwolves delivering a shutout 20-0 victory over Hesston (Kansas) College in the championship at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. With the title, FGC becomes the first NJCAA flag football national champion in the history of the organization.
Destiny Lockett was awarded Championship MVP and All-Tournament Defensive Athlete. FGC head coach Ricky Hufty was named NJCAA Coach of the Year.
The T-wolves went undefeated in their five matchups of the tournament against Hesston and Fort Scott (Kansas) Community College after a regular season record of 10-1.
The team will bring the championship rings and trophy home to FGC as the college’s first NJCAA national champions since 2001.
