SUWANNEE RANCHETTES — Human remains were found in a wooded area in southeastern Suwannee County on Saturday, according to authorities.

A Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office release Saturday night said someone walking in a wooded area reported possibly finding the remains in the area of 224th Street and 37th Drive near State Road 247.

The SCSO release states the responding deputies were able to positively identify the remains as human - which are believed to be an adult. SCSO investigators and technicians from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Crime Lab responded and searched the area and recovered the remains while also searching for any other evidence.

According to the release, no signs of trauma were detected to the remains during the initial investigation and no foul play is suspected at this time. 

The remains will be sent to the District 2 Medical Examiners Office and from there will be examined by a forensic anthropologist.

 This investigation remains open and will be active until a positive identification can be made from the remains.

According to the SCSO, no further information can be released at this time.
