A Lake City man was shot and killed in his driveway Monday night in the northwest part of Lake City.

According to the Lake City Police Department, 23-year-old Christopher Alid Cruz Aleman, was shot around 9:50 p.m. Monday. When officers arrived to the 1000 block of NW Ashley Street, a witness was performing CPR on Aleman. Officers and EMS took over but Aleman died.

Nobody else was injured in the incident.

Greg Burnsed, an LCPD spokesman, said Tuesday that Aleman was shot in the face but officers were not certain how many wounds he had.

“It was hard to tell at the scene,” Burnsed said, adding investigators were waiting to hear back from the Medical Examiner’s Office.

According to the LCPD release, the scene was secured by officers from the LCPD as well as deputies from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and processed by Florida Department of Law Enforcement crime scene investigators.

Investigators from the LCPD and the State Attorney’s Office have been talking with family members and potential witnesses.

“We’re working as hard as we can,” Burnsed said. “There’s a couple of us who got a couple hours sleep and probably five that haven’t had any sleep.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the LCPD at 386-752-4343 and speak with Detective Collins.
