MAYO — Not only does the Lafayette County Board of County Commissioners have a new member, but it also has a new chair. During a brief reorganizational meeting Tuesday morning, the board unanimously approved Earnest Jones serving as the board chairman for the next year.

West Palm Beach murder suspect captured in Live Oak

LIVE OAK — A Live Oak man was captured Tuesday for a murder in West Palm Beach. Investigators with the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office helped the United States Marshals Office with apprehending 37-year-old Joetavius Jackson on Tuesday after the Marshals tracked him to Live Oak.

FERNANDINA BEACH — Five hundred years after the original expedition, Ferdinand Magellan’s Trinidad is sailing once more. The replica of Trinidad, Magellan’s flagship, was built in 2018 and will be sailing into the Oasis Marina at Fernandina Beach Harbor this week.

TALLAHASSEE — Gasoline prices have dropped as Florida motorists hit the road for one of the busiest travel periods of the year. More than 2.9 million Floridians are forecast to drive or fly more than 50 miles for the Thanksgiving holiday, according to the AAA auto club.
