DeSantis prospects may force Florida law review

MIAMI — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis may need some help from the state Legislature if he proceeds with a highly anticipated bid for the Republican presidential nomination. A “resign to run” law requires state officeholders to commit to leave their positions if they run for federal office.

LIVE OAK — A motorcyclist was killed Thursday evening when a vehicle turned in front of his bike. The 34-year-old Live Oak man was heading north on State Road 51 when a southbound SUV tried to turn left in front of him around 6 p.m. at the intersection with County Road 250, causing a crash.

MAYO — Lafayette High School FBLA members are better prepared to lead after a trip to Orlando last month. Twenty-one LHS FBLA members attended the National Leadership Conference, a two-day event, on Nov. 17-18 that ended with a team-bonding trip to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

NEW YORK — The long-rumored memoir-policy book by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is coming out next year. The HarperCollins imprint Broadside will release “The Courage to Be Free: Florida’s Blueprint for America’s Revival” on Feb. 28.

PANAMA CITY BEACH — State wildlife officials Wednesday approved a seasonal no-entry zone in an area of Brevard County waters where manatees gather, while preparing for a second winter of feeding the sea cows to try to prevent deaths.
