Columbia County weather and shelter update
According to the latest update from the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, Columbia County could possibly see wind gusts of 30 to 35 mph beginning Friday at approximately 9 a.m. EST.
Sustained winds are possible beginning at approximately 10 am. Rainfall estimates are still between 1 to 2 inches, with locally heavier rainfall in some areas.
Columbia County currently has three general population shelters and one special-needs shelter open.
Emergency Shelter Locations currently open:
• Winfield Community Center — 1324 NW Winfield St. in Lake City.
• Mason City Community Center — 11110 U.S. 441 South in Lake City.
• Westside Elementary School (special-needs facility) — 1956 County Road 252B in Lake City.
• Fort White High School Gymnasium — 17828 State Road 47 in Fort White.
