A suspect was jailed early Friday in a Lake City homicide.
Nathan Ray Hudgins, 38, was booked on charges of second-degree murder at 12:20 a.m., jail records show. Hudgins, who is listed as homeless on the jail website, is being held without bail.
Lake City Police late Thursday said a 38-year-old woman died that night of blunt force trauma in her apartment.
Shortly before 9:30 p.m., officers met a man at 3846 NW Huntsboro Street, Apt. 103, who identified himself as a friend of the woman, according to an LCPD Facebook post.
Standing next to the man was the woman’s 14-year-old son, himself seriously hurt in an altercation, the post said.
The son was flown to UF Health Shands in Gainesville.
The unidentified man called 911 Thursday night, according to the 11:30 p.m. post, which described him as a person of interest in the case.
Investigators from the Third Circuit State Attorney’s Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement were on the scene Thursday night.
The post said police were withholding all names until next of kin had been notified.
