Florida Gateway College is collecting urgently needed supplies to aid victims of Hurricane Ian’s recent landfall in southwest Florida.

FGC’s sister college State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota and its surrounding community suffered devastating damage from the storm with many of its employees and students losing everything, including their homes.

In a joint effort with Santa Fe College, FGC is calling on the community to donate essential supplies that will help fill a critical need for those affected.

“We are thankful that FGC and our district received minimal impact from Hurricane Ian, but some at our sister colleges were not as lucky,” FGC President Lawrence Barrett said in a release. “Together with President (Paul) Broadie at Santa Fe and his campus, we are committed to doing everything we can to help our fellow Florida College System members. Please keep those at SCF and everyone impacted in southwest Florida in your thoughts and prayers.”

FGC is asking for donations of personal/hygiene/household supplies to help its fellow Florida College community get through the aftermath of the disaster.

On Monday, Oct. 10, the college will utilize FGC CDL Truck Driver training program instructors, students, and trucks to transport the donations, stopping at Santa Fe College to pick up items donated there before continuing on to State College of Florida to make delivery.

  • Toothpaste
  • Toothbrushes
  • Paper towels
  • Baby diapers

  • Hairbrushes
  • T-shirts, various sizes
