High school wrapup: Columbia tennis teams move onto second day of districts; Fort White baseball loses fourth straight
Columbia’s boys and girls tennis teams both sent four of its five singles players into today’s District 3-3A finals.
No. 2 Colin Broome, No. 3 Daniel Rendel, No. 4 Reid Wehrli and No. 5 Brandon Helms all won their quarterfinals and semifinals matches for the boys while No. 2 Megan Zahnle, No. 3 Brittany Helms, No. 4 Chase Broome and No. 5 Faith Johnson all won their’s.
No. 1 Akash Ghandi and No. 1 Cassidy Lear both lost in the district semifinals.
The doubles teams of Akash Ghandi/Colin Broome and Reid Wehrli/Christian Chiong won their quarterfinals matches for the boys as did the girls’ doubles teams of Cassidy Lear/Brittany Helms and Megan Zahnle/Chase Broome.
The doubles semifinals and finals are today.
The boys are currently in first with a score of 11, ahead of Oakleaf (10) and Atlantic Coast (9).
The girls are also in first, two points ahead of Atlantic Coast.
Fort White baseball
The Indians lost their fourth straight Monday night, falling 6-5 to Newberry (10-6, 8-3) at home. Fort White (5-12, 2-7) travels to Baldwin tonight.
