Columbia finishes third in Christmas tournament.

The Columbia High boy’s soccer team picked up a win on Monday against St. Francis, 6-0 before closing out the tournament with a third place finish against Suwannee, 3-1.
The Tigers rebounded from an opening loss to defeat St. Francis after an opening half of 3-0.
Geoff Beardsley scored the Tigers first goal with an assist from Chris Beardsley.
Brad Carpenter would score on an unassisted goal before Jorge Carrillo finished out the first half with an assist from Geoff Beardsley.
Geoff Beardsley would also open up the second half scoring with an assist from Chase Stamper.
The Tigers pulled ahead 5-0 with Jordan Lehman scoring on a goal with the assist from Brad Carpenter.
Jimmy Rukab closed out the Tigers scoring with a goal on an assist from Rian Rodriguez.
On Tuesday, the Tigers closed out the tournament with a 3-1 win against Suwannee.
“We played really well during the last three games of the tournament,” coach Trevor Tyler said. “We had really good defense, and Cameron Harper had a great final game.”
Carpenter scored the first goal of the game on an unassisted goal that came from a free kick.
Michael Jordan had the second goal with an assist from Robert Yager, and Geoff Beardsley closed out the game with an unassisted goal.
Lady Tigers basketball
The Columbia High Lady Tigers defeated Evans on Monday, 58-49.
“We fought hard, and battled. In the end, we hung in there for the win,” coach Horace Jefferson said.
Sharmayne Edwards led the Lady Tigers with 20 points in the game.
When the game was on the line Edwards was clutch for Columbia hitting 8-of-11 shots from the foul line.
Katrina Goodbread had 15 for the Lady Tigers while Shaniqua Henry and Moriah Harrington had eight each.
Harrington also added 14 rebounds prompting coach Jefferson to call her “chairlady of the boards.”
The Lady Tigers will take on Deltona, which beat Seabreeze 34-29, in the finals.
“They are going to want to slow it down. They’re bigger than us, but most teams are. We’ll have to try to get out there and speed the game up,” said Jefferson.

The Columbia High Tigers defeated Miami South West by the final of 48-40 on Tuesday.
After falling behind
8-2 early in the game, the Tigers came back to lead at the end of all four
quarters.
Columbia led 19-12 after the first before giving away a little before the half to lead 25-24.
The Tigers would pull away in the second half behind Dontae Davis, who had 10 points in the fourth quarter.
Davis finished with a team high 20 points.
Jerry Thomas was the Tigers other big contributor adding 9 points in the game.
“In the second half we only gave up 16 points defensively,” said coach Trey Hosford.
“You hold a team to that, and you’re doing good things. We still need to cut down on the turnovers, but I’m pleased to get the
win.”
