The Fort White Lady Indians soccer team moved to 4-5 (2-1 district) with a 3-1 win over visiting Newberry on Wednesday.

The Lady Indians started slow with the Lady Panthers jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the first half.

“I don’t know what it is, but in my seven years here we have always been a second half team,” coach Perry Sauls said.

The Indians tied it up before the half ended, and took that momentum into the second half..

“Once again our back played strong led by Alison Wrench, Porcha Bird, Danielle Gainey, and Kirsten Bass,” said Sauls.

The defenders of Fort White allowed only three shots on goal throughout the game with Newberry’s goal coming from a corner kick.

Keeper Tiffany Joseph had three saves in the game.

Meghan Binge scored on a goal assisted by Amanda Weddle.

Rebecca Onorati had a goal assisted by Gainey.

Fort White’s other goal came from Jenna Curry with the assist from Bird at defender.

“It really says a lot for this team when our defense is turning in three assists,” said Sauls.

The Lady Indians will host Hamilton at 7 p.m. at Arrowhead Stadium on Friday.

The Fort White Indians lost to 5-0 to the P.K. Yonge Blue Wave on Wednesday.

The Indians battled, but the Wave were able to control the field to keep the ball in Fort White’s area consistently throughout the game.

The Wave jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half, and the score would stay that way for the first 20

minutes of the second half.

The Wave added three second half goals with the last coming at 2:40 remaining in the 5-0 win.

The Indians had a few chances of their own, but couldn’t find a way to put it past the keeper with a couple of shots just clearing the top of the net.

“We played well in spots, but it just hasn’t come together in all phases yet,” said assistant coach Billy Blanchard. “That wasn’t our worst game, but it

certainly wasn’t our best.”

Blanchard did mention Matt Waddington, Josh Barton, and Trevor Stout as players who performed well despite the outcome.

Michaela Burton scored a break-away goal seven minutes into the second half.

Michelle Pope scored in the fourteenth minute on a drive down the left side where she curled the ball into the opposite side of the goal.

Christine Bonilla blasted a free kick in the tenth minute from 40 yards out to the mouth of the goal. It bounced off the keeper and into the net.
