5 injured in Tuesday evening wreck

Five Lake City residents were taken to local and area hospitals Tuesday night after three sport utility vehicles collided on U.S. Highway 90, according to police reports.

The incident occurred at 6:55 p.m. at U.S. Highway 90 west and Florida Gateway Boulevard.

According to preliminary Lake City Police Department reports, a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe carrying five people — three children and two adults, heading east, collided with a 2008 Honda CR-V that was heading west and turning left onto Florida Gateway Boulevard. The force of the impact pushed the CR-V on the hood of a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The CR-V driver, William Lothian, 62, of Massachusetts, was uninjured in the mishap.


The Tahoe driver, Billy Nash, no age given, of Lake City was traveling with his wife Kelly Nash, no age given; and family members Donovan Nash, 16; Cheyenne Nash, 15, and Josh Nash, 17.

Kelly Nash was airlifted to a Gainesville hospital with her injuries, while Billy Nash and Cheyenne Nash were taken to Lake City Medical Center with their injuries.

The Jeep driver, Alexis Walker, 18, of Lake City and her passenger, Krystal Meeham, 21, also of Lake City, were taken to Lake Shore Hospital with their injuries.

Authorities spent more than an hour at the wreck scene, but were unable

to provide additional details about the wreck at press time.

" An elderly tourist caused yet another accident, but is rewarded with lower insurance rates, because they are considered to be "Safer drivers". I see more accidents involving the elderly, and caused by the same, yet are again rewarded. Something needs to be changed. "
