The Columbia High Lady Tigers downed the Gainesville High Lady Hurricanes in an overtime thriller, 55-47.
Four periods of fast-paced basketball were not enough as the Lady Tigers and Lady Hurricanes were knotted up at 43-43 after regulation.
The Lady Tigers led at halftime by the score of 16-13, but fell behind 31-30 entering the fourth period.
After a 12 point
explosion in overtime, the Lady Hurricanes couldn’t hold and gave the Tigers the win on their home court.
Sharmayne Edwards led the Lady Tigers with 15 points in the game.
Also in double-digits for the Lady Tigers was Vikiela Hill with 11 points.
DaBrea Hill and Shaniqua Henry added eight points
each.
Four points were added by Katrina Goodbread, Moriah Harrington, and Simone Williamson for coach Horace Jefferson’s Lady Tigers.
“In overtime they went to a box and one, and I thought they boxed the wrong
person,” Jefferson said.
“We gave the ball to the hot hand. I thought that they were stronger, but we didn’t quit. We might not have got the first or second rebound, but we were coming up with the third on the loose ball. In the end we were able to persevere, because when you have hard play and smart play on our end of the court, that will equal a Tigers
victory.”
