Columbia High’s boys soccer team placed second in the 2008 Florida Capital Soccer Tournament
hosted by Maclay School in Tallahassee.
After an opening win over Bay High on Friday, the Tigers split on Saturday. Columbia lost to Gainesville High, 4-3, then rebounded to beat St. Johns County Day of Jacksonville, 5-0.
Robert Jaeger and Jorge Carrillo scored first-half goals against Gainesville, as the teams played to a
2-2 tie at intermission. Mike Smith assisted on both CHS goals.
Brad Carpenter scored an unassisted goal off a free kick in the second half.
Cameron Harper had five saves in goal.
Geoff Beardsley had a hat trick in the first half against St. Johns. Carpenter, Smith and Harper recorded assists.
Jaeger also had a first-half goal with an assist by Carpenter.
Carpenter scored in the second half with an assist by Carrillo.
“The defense of Chris Beardsley, Chase Stamper, Jason Strickland, Mike Smith and Casey Walker gave up only two shots,” coach Trevor Tyler said. “The two goalkeepers, Cameron Harper and Michael Ortiz, were up to the challenge in preserving the second shutout of the tournament.”
Columbia plays at Wolfson High at 7:30 p.m. today. Columbia’s first District
4-5A match is 7:30 p.m., Dec. 1, at Forest High.
Lady Tigers soccer
Columbia’s girls soccer match against Oak Hall School on Monday was
canceled.
Scheduled to begin at
5:30 p.m., the officials called and said they could not be at the school until 8 p.m. Oak Hall opted out.
The Lady Tigers were 1-2 in the Capital Soccer Tournament in Tallahassee over the weekend.
Columbia lost, 3-2, to Washington High of Pensacola on Friday. Erika Hall and Shelby Widergren scored the goals for CHS.
After a 5-0 drubbing by Buchholz High on Saturday, Columbia rebounded to beat Bay High, 2-0, later in the day. Widergren scored both goals.
Columbia (2-6-0, 1-3-0) returns to District 4-5A play when Eastside High visits at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 1.
Fort White soccer
Fort White High’s boys soccer team fell to 0-3 with a 6-0 loss at The Rock School on Thursday.
The Indians lost 8-0 to Keystone Heights High at home on Nov. 17.
Fort White’s girls dropped the first game of the Keystone Heights
doubleheader, 5-1.
