FORT WHITE — The Fort White Indians met on Wednesday for their final practice at home before moving on to Pensacola for final preparations of their first-round playoff game against the Pensacola Catholic Crusaders.

“We had a good,

energetic practice,” Coach Demetric Jackson said. “The guys looked crisp out there today.”

Today, the schedule will change from a normal routine for the Indians as they make their way to Pensacola.

Fort White is scheduled to have a team picture for the playoffs taken at

11 a.m. before the team meal at 12:30 p.m.

Following lunch, the Indians will meet the high school for a pep rally at

1 p.m. At the conclusion of the pep rally, the Indians will board a bus and travel to the city of Quincy.

Once in Quincy, the Indians have a practice planned from 3:30-5:30 p.m., but the Indians don’t expect that to throw a wrench in the Indians’ plans.

“It shouldn’t have any effect,” Jackson said. “Thursday is a mental day, anyway.”

Following practice, the Indians have another planned meal, before finishing the ride to Pensacola, where they will spend the night before the game.

“We kind of treat this like a business trip,” Jackson said. “We have a lot of seniors and

veterans on this team. Being at home or on the road shouldn’t have any effect.”

Fort White plans to come out with the

same game plan as all

season, balancing the offense, while playing

fundamentally sound on the defensive side.

“We always want to be balanced with the run and the pass,” Jackson said. “We want to stay out of predictable situations, like third and long. On defense, we want to be simple, and fly to the ball. We want to play smart, but play hard.”

In the past couple of weeks, teams have shown a tendency to stack up in the box in order to stop running back Xavier Blake. This could play to the Indians’ advantage as

quarterback Alex Gilmer has become more

consistent in his first half play over the last couple of weeks.

“We know teams want to stack up against the run,” Jackson said. “If they stack up, then we’d like to throw it, and if they sit back in cover two, then we’ll run it.”

The Indians and coach Jackson were also very pleased with the recent donations from the

surrounding communities as they were able to raise enough money so that Fort White may be comfortable on their playoff journey.

“I’m so thankful for this community, even though I know it’s rough times,” Jackson said. “The economy isn’t like it was this time last year. I’m just thankful for this

community and the

surrounding communities, and the financial contributions that they have made in order for us to be

comfortable on this trip.”
