CHS cross country teams come up short at region

Columbia High cross country faced tough

competition at the Region 1-3A meet on Saturday at Miccosukee Greenway Canopy Park in Tallahassee.

Columbia’s boys placed 12th out of 14 teams, while the Lady Tigers were 12th out of 12.

Chiles High won the girls competition with a perfect score of 15. Carly Thomas was region champion with a time of 19:01.77. Fort Walton Beach High was second and Leon High was third.


Ridgeview High and Fleming Island High placed fourth and fifth, respec-

tively, and were tops among teams in Columbia’s District 2-3A.

Leon won the boys

competition, behind region champion Matt Mizereck who ran 15:44.41.

Fort Walton Beach, Washington High, Pine Forest High and Chiles rounded out the top five.

Columbia’s Brandon Scott placed 14th with a time of 16:50.18.

Other Tiger runners were: Max Murphy, 58th in 17:55.52; Dillon Snook, 59th in 17:56.07; Jason Harrison, 71st in 18:11.99; Marcus Vallejo, 75th in 18:22.77; Casey Crane, 89th in 19:21.77.

Lynzee Little finished first among the Lady Tigers and 52nd overall in the

meet with a time of 23:00.13.

Other CHS girls were: Morgan Murphy, 54th in 23:10.29; Meghan Collins, 69th in 24:35.75; Perla Valdez, 73rd in 25:20.85; Clare Russell, 74th in a

personal best 25:35.80; Amy Nydam, 78th in 26:22.21.

Columbia swimming

Phillip Leonard represented the CHS swim team in the Class 2A state meet on Saturday at Central Florida YMCA Aquatic Center in Orlando.

Leonard placed 22nd in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.29 and placed 23rd in the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.34.

The top 16 swimmers in each event qualified for the finals.

Stephen Czaja of Boca Raton High won the 100 fly in 50.50.

Brad Morrison of Sunlake won the 100 back in 51.87.

Belen Jesuit Prep of Miami won the boys competition. Leon’s 16th place was the best among

teams in Columbia’s District 2-2A.

Boca Raton won the girls competition, as District 2’s Leon and Lincoln tied for 27th.
