The March of Dimes and the Lake City Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites are again teaming up to present Holiday Magic Around the World, Signature Chefs Auction. The event begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
“Chef Robert Tulko, a corporate chef with Winn-Dixie will be the host chef for the Signature Chefs Auction,” said Maureen Lloyd, sponsorship co-chair and board secretary of the March of Dimes, Suwannee Valley chapter.
“We have 16 chefs coming this year,” Lloyd said, noting that Chef Tulko can be seen on a local Jacksonville television station. “The chefs will feature several ethnic foods this year as well, so there will be a little something for everybody.”
Tickets for the fundraiser are $50 and are available at Ward’s Jewelers, First Street Music, First Federal Savings Bank (U.S. Highway 90 West and Turner Road) and at the Holiday Inn.
“The ticket includes your meal, wine tasting and entertainment,” Lloyd said. “We’ve got Mystic River entertaining, chef’s specialties for auction, other live auction items including five beautifully-decorated trees, beautiful watches, jewelry, gold, signed football memorabilia, beautiful quilts, gorgeous artwork and a giant Santa Claus.”
Lloyd said the event affords the perfect opportunity to do some Christmas shopping.
“Our silent auction will take place at poolside,” Lloyd said. “We have childrens’ dolls and childrens’ bicycles among other gifts .”
Several custom-designed Christmas trees will be auctioned as well.
Kathy Adams, from The Kathy Collection at Waynes Carpet Plus, custom designs traditional and non-traditional Christmas trees. This is Adams’ second year donating a custom tree for the March of Dimes fundraiser.
“This a non-traditional tree that blends shades of blue, gold and copper and it’s a very tranquil tree,” Adams said. “It is an artificial tree with probably 500 or 600 lights.
“It’s seven and a half feet with striped ribbon and all of the ornaments on this tree are Raz ornaments, they are very upscale.”
Adams said the tree would normally sell for $2,000 in her store.
“We raised about $42,000 for the March of Dimes last year,” said Lloyd.
Lloyd also said she hopes the event will raise more money this year, but is realistic in light of the troubled economy.
“We are hoping and praying that we can reach our goal,” Lloyd said. “This is a really fun event to raise money for a good cause.”
