Downtown Action Corporation President Jeff Bertram is calling for help in a revised effort to decorate Olustee Park for Christmas.
Paid city workers decorated the main park in downtown Lake City for Christmas for the past seven or eight years, Bertram said. Cutbacks from overtime are forcing the city government to ask for help from the community, he added.
Churches, Rotarians, Kiwanians, Altrusans, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and even business interests are invited to volunteer manpower for this effort, he said. Donations of lights are sought as well, he added.
“We’ll put up sponsor signs to recognize the volunteers for each section,” Bertram said.
There are approximately a dozen sections of the park to be decorated. On Thursday night, Bertram plans to have his “generals” designating areas for volunteers to partake in the plan.
Decorating is slated to start next week, if all goes as Bertram hopes. He wants groups of 10 to 12 individuals for each section. That puts the call for volunteers at about 144 people.
Leaders of groups who are willing to volunteer are asked to call Keaton Locksmiths at 752-0370 to sign up for service.
