After a devestating
44-28 loss to the Madison Cowboys on Friday night, the Fort White Indians returned to practice in preperation for the Hamilton County Trojans.
The Trojans, who host Friday night’s contest, will enter at 1-7 with their only win coming against a winless Bishop Snyder team. Don’t look for Fort White to overlook they’re opponent, but they’ll be focusing more this week on self-improvement.
“Today was energetic. We had a lot of fun out there,” Jackson said after yesterday’s practice, “I’m not as worried as much about our opponent as I am getting this team better.”
Keeping spirits high this week hasn’t been hard, as the Indians have come out hungry after a loss.
“A.J. Parnell had the best practice he’s ever had,” Jackson said. “I don’t know, but everyone’s out there playing decent.”
Though the loss to the Cowboys still lingers hard for some, Jackson sees the fine lining in the loss, and took notice of a Fort White squad that fought until the final whistle.
“Those guys fought hard,” Jackson said. “I thought we were in better shape as the game wore on. When you look at us, and then see they’re 70 or more guys, and they’re winded that says a lot.”
Still, how does Jackson take that extra energy and use it as his team prepares to move forward?
“We’re going to be more physical. I think we showed how physical we are,” Jackson said. “They try to come out and show they’re Madison, and we just fought back. (Next time) we just can’t give up the big plays.”
Though the Indians may be licking their chops for a rematch against the Cowboys, the Indians remain focused on their next two opponents.
“Right now we still have to focus on the task at hand, and Pensacola has been playing some good ball (if we face them in the playoffs),” Jackson said, “Taylor beat Dixie though, and we have to go out and win that game.”
The Indians will meet Taylor County High Nov. 7th, with the winner getting the district runner up spot in the playoffs. First up, the Indians must beat the Trojans on Friday night at 7:30 in Hamilton.
