For weeks now the Fort White Indians have taken part in what they like to call “Bloody Tuesday.” While there usually isn’t any bloodshed at these intense practice sessions, there is enough sweat and dirt to go around for everyone.

The idea of “Bloody Tuesday” comes from a quote that has inspired coach Demetric Jackson and his players through these practice periods all season long. The quote from John Wooden reads, “Confidence comes from being prepared.”

Fort White believes that being prepared for a game on Friday comes from the work put in on practice both Monday and Tuesday.

While Tuesday is usually the more rigorous of the days, this Monday the Indians had a special practice according to Jackson.

“We came out here from 10:30 until about 1:15,” Jackson said.

“When you’re winning you can do those kind of things, but when I brought our guys over we still had guys wanting to do more. We took the guys over and had another ten or fifteen minutes of practice. When you have 90 percent of your guys wanting to do more, it gives you

goosebumps.”

Jackson believes this team is hungry for Madison. He believes the team is playing to win, and not just hoping for a win.

“The guys came back again today, and they did the same thing,” Jackson said.

“This is the seventh week, and these guys’ legs should be tired, but they’re still going at it with a hunger. The contact is still there, and they want it.”

For Jackson and the Indians, it has been a growing sense of belief in themselves all season.

After a closer-than-expected win against Middleburg, the team a moment of togetherness at one such practice that Jackson calls, “the most intense practice I’ve ever witnessed.”

“We have coaches on this team that have been part of other programs,” Jackson said.

“We were all in agreement that if this team had been 3-3, then we would have had guys quit. We didn’t have that though. We had guys going hard, and busting their butt.”

The hard work put in throughout the season comes to fruition this Friday night where a win against Madison County would mean so much to this program.

“It’s a big key to be able to get over them,” Jackson said. “They’ve outscored us 88-7 the past two seasons. We’ll find out if our boys are going in hoping to win or believing they will win. Will they go out and make the block no matter what, or will they accept it since it’s Madison.”

“We want them going out there to make the block no matter what it takes, regardless of what it takes. Hope leaves doubt. Believing is to know it.”
