While it hasn’t been all fun and games for the Fort White Indians during their bye week due to a physical first couple days of practice, it’s now time to turn up the heat a little more with the district schedule beginning Friday night against Dixie County High.

“We worked hard,” Indians head coach Demetric Jackson said of the bye week. “Guys

practiced, and now we have to get back in game mode. It was a good chance for us to heal up.”

However, some Indians will be well rested coming back this week, as key players were able to regain a little strength from the wear and tear of the first four games.

Alexis Blake is a player who has been counted on that is going through some injury issues.

“He should be fine,” Jackson said after speaking with Blake on Monday. “He told me that he was going to practice.”

Having Blake back at full speed is of vital importance as Dixie comes into Arrowhead Stadium.

“They’re a very decent team,” Jackson said. “They have a real good running back, but the other skill players can run it as well. It’s not just the (Rodney) Scott show. Michael West can also run it, and they have some big offensive linemen.”

Jackson also mentioned that Dixie’s defense plays hard, and will be returning several players from injury. The Bears have guys going both ways, so how much of an impact will stamina play on Friday?

“Hopefully, we can (wear them down)” Jackson said. “We’ll be trying to wear them down, but they’ve played some tough games already. They’re in good shape, and the weather will not be as much of a factor since it’s not going to be as hot as it has been. (More importantly) we’ve got to take care of the ball.”

The Bears’ defense has given many looks this

season, ranging from a 6-1 front to a 5-3 depending on the offensive look, making them a versatile defense. How will that affect Xavier Blake and the Indians

rushing game?

“We never go in trying to go to one person,” Jackson said. “We’re going to see what the defense presents us, and we’re going to attack what they give us.”

The Indians will host the Bears at 7:30 p.m., Friday, at Arrowhead Stadium, as Fort White tries to go 5-0 on the season.
