Lake City Police Department Sgt. Shawn Raggins presented Suzanne Edwards, chief operating officer of Catholic Charities, a $250 check Tuesday morning.
The proceeds were
from Tru-TV, a television show, which is using a Lake City Police Department video showing two suspects fleeing and eluding authorities after a Sept. 21, 2002, robbery.
The video has recently been airing on the television show, Hot Pursuit — Wildest Police Chases and the show, Most Shocking Police Chases.
Raggins, the arresting officer in the case, was given the opportunity to have the check made out to the charity of his choice and he chose Catholic Charities.
“Catholic Charities really impressed me,” he said. “It’s about letting the people know you care.”
Edwards said Catholic Charities is pleased to receive the donation from Raggins and the Lake City Police Department.
“We’ve seen about a 55 percent increase of need over this time last year,” Edwards said. “We take our responsibility of helping the less fortunate
very serious. Shawn Raggins and the Lake City Police Department — we appreciate them. This
$250 may keep a family of four from getting their lights turned off. Times are truly tough. We’re grateful for the United Way and all the other providers in town that heed the call of the less fortunate.”
