Brock Storm is hoping that Radio Disney will propel him into the spotlight just as it has for Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers in the past.

The 17-year-old Lake City Pop Rock singer recently signed with Muse Artist Management — which has represented Jesse McCartney and “High School Musical” alum Ashley Tisdale — after taking part in the Radio Disney Incubator earlier this year. The show is partly responsible for discovering the likes of Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers, and Brock has received a major boost since he was featured on the radio show in January.

And he’s taking advantage of that success, currently performing concerts around the nation and putting the final touches on his debut album.

Born at Lake Shore Hospital in Lake City, Brock began singing at an early age. At the age of 5, his aunt overheard him singing to the radio — a few weeks later, he found himself singing at her wedding and has never looked back.

Brock has performed at a number of local festivals — the Olustee Battle Festival and the annual Hog Wild and Pig Crazy — and said he has probably performed more than 500 shows in his lifetime. His performance Saturday night with Aly and AJ at Wild Adventures in Valdosta, Ga., was his last before he heads north for performances in New York and New Jersey before heading to California. And it doesn’t end there. On the horizon are performances with Keke Palmer and Raven Symone.

“It’s very tiring,” Brock said of being on the road. “The work schedule provides very little time for sleep. I’ve been rehearsing every day with my backup dancers in Jacksonville for this upcoming show. It’s so much work, but it’s a lot of fun, and it’s what I want to do.”

Brock had a lot of early success in his career before hitting it big with Radio Disney. At the age of 10, he was a winning contestant on “Showtime at the Apollo,” and also has appeared on “Ed McMahon’s Next Big Star” and sang with Marie Osmond in a performance on a Children’s Miracle Network Telethon.

By the age of 11, Brock had his first recording contract with Dreamworks Nashville.

“I started out singing country,” he confessed. “My first recording deal was for country music, because that is what I was raised on. But as I got older, and was thinking on my own terms, I felt more comfortable to the Pop Rock feel.”

And Pop Rock is where he plans to make a career. Brock is putting the final touches on his first album, which he hopes to see released before the end of the year.

“I’ve recorded 18 songs total,” he said. “And we’re still recording just to make sure I have the right combination for the 10 to 12 songs that will likely be on the album.” Storm said the first single from that album will be available on Apple’s iTunes service in the coming months.

Since he started at such an early age, it’s of very little surprise that Brock sees music as a profession, something he sees himself doing for a long time.

“I want to make a career out of this for as long as I want,” he said. “Performing is just what I want to do.”

As an artist, Brock wants to set his goals high — he said his ultimate goal is to win a coveted Grammy.

“You know, I’ve gotten this far, who says I can’t do that,” he said.

A lot of children grow up hoping one day to be famous and sing on stage in front of thousands of adoring fans. Brock said that isn’t a dream that they should give up on — even if it is a one-in-a-million chance. Who can say that they won’t be that one person that makes it, he said.

“Lake City has grown a lot since I was a kid,” he said. “But just because you’re from a small place or you don’t have a lot of money, or just because you have limitations, don’t let that stand in your way. Set your mind to it and focus on what you want and don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it.”
