Fort White resident, Lt. Col. James Earle, U.S. Army Reserve, was named Friday as the administrator of the Robert H. Jenkins Veterans Domiciliary by the Florida Department of Veterans Affairs (FDVA).
Earle is replacing Polly Tyler who retired in April after 17 years as administrator of the domiciliary.
Earle has been working for the past two years as a Department of Defense consultant to the Afghanistan National Army and National Police, in Afghanistan.
“It’s an honor to have been selected by the department for this position,” Earle said. “I look forward to working with Florida’s veterans and anyone else interested in supporting our veterans.”
Earle’s resumé includes a stint as director of the Florida Sheriff’s Boys Ranch and another as area program administrator of child protective services for the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF).
“This is Florida’s home for Florida’s veterans,” Earle said.
Earle said all six of the state’s veterans facilities are named for Medal of Honor recipients and that the state run domiciliary in Lake City is the only assisted living facility like it in the state.
In addition to the domiciliary, five nursing homes are scattered around the state all under the auspices of the FDVA: Land O’ Lakes, Springfield, Port Charlotte, Daytona Beach and Pembroke Pines.
Earle’s administrative experience also includes director-level positions at Northeast Florida State Hospital in Macclenny and Florida State Hospital in Chattahootchee.
He earned his master’s degree in social work at Florida State University.
“I was Operations Program Administrator for the DCF, my office was in Lake City and we served Suwannee, Lafayette, Columbia and Hamilton counties,” Earle said. “We’re proud to serve these veterans and we invite the community to come visit us.”
