Lake City American’s visit to the state tournament got

sidetracked by South Lakeland and the two teams will settle up today in the Cal Ripken Rookie State tournament in Lake City.

South Lakeland fought back from a 7-2 deficit to defeat Lake City 10-8 on Saturday to force today’s “A” Bracket 7 if-necessary game at 9 a.m. South Lakeland squeaked by Sans Souci, 11-8, earlier on Saturday to stay alive.

There will be one other game today, also at 9 a.m. The MAA Bombers will play the North Central Florida Mustangs for

the championship in “B”

Bracket 2.

All other brackets were decided with Jacksonville Beach Blue Crabs, Fort Caroline, North Central Florida, MSA Diamond Dogs, Julington Creek BJ

and Okeeheelee Blue winning “A” brackets and

Okeeheelee Red winning

“B” Bracket 1.

The bracket winners advance to the state tournament in Palm Beach Gardens.

Lake City pounded out 10 hits in the first two innings while building a 7-2 lead. South Lakeland scored two runs in the top of the first inning.

In Lake City’s half of the first inning, Noah Sapp led off with a triple and McCabe Sargent

singled him home. Caleb Strickland and Brock Edge added singles, with Edge

notching an RBI.

Sargent singled and Hunter Houston ripped a double down the third-base line to score both runners. Strickland singled in Houston and Edge added another single with Strickland scoring on an overthrow from the

outfield.

South Lakeland started its comeback with a three-run home run by Jake Salvador in the third inning. On defense, South Lakeland set down the Americans 1-2-3 in the

bottom of the inning.

Lake City shut out

South Lakeland in the

top of the fourth inning and scored one run in

the bottom of the inning.

Trey Rossignol and Sapp singled and Houston had an RBI-double. Strickland had an infield single, but Lake City ran itself out of a big inning with

two runners thrown

out around the third-base bag.

South Lakeland took the lead with four runs in the fifth inning, all coming with two outs. Oscar Bravo had a two-run triple and Josh Phelan and Brandt Sundean added run-

scoring singles. South Lakeland tacked on an insurance run in the sixth inning.
