Dreaming big can have its rewards

Published: Sunday, November 25, 2007 1:32 AM EST
Dreams are a great way to escape or set a life goal.

For Lake City resident Reynolds Marion, the latter proved time consuming, expensive and, well, just plain hard. As a child, Marion dreamt of building a hyper-submersible power boat. Thirty years and $1.5 million later, Marion has his prototype, Fathom.

Marion didn't do it alone. He had a team of six to help check his math, invest and build the hyper-sub. But aside from the possible military contracts and whether the craft makes billions, we applaud Marion for doing what he apparently does best - following his dreams. He took his idea and fine-tuned it over the years. When the timing was right, the hyper-sub dream became a reality.

How many of us actually are following our dreams?

Following dreams doesn't necessarily mean you have the profession you wanted as a child. Maybe you have the big family you wanted, the college education you strived for or the satisfaction of helping others.

We didn't all grow up to be firemen, adventurists or billionaires, but Marion proves it is never too late to bring your dream into fruition.
